Course Overview

All the basics you need to start to use your computer effectively.

This course covers hardware (the parts of a computer you can touch), the extras you can buy to go with a standard PC and software (the programmes that run your computer). Tutors explain computer basics in a non technical manner and show you some useful business software packages including word processing and spreadsheets, how to find photos, documents and folders on your computer using Windows and give some IT security tips.

This is a one-day course running from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Training is hands-on and tutor-led.
We provide a comprehensive training manual, lunch and certification.
Courses run at both Swansea and Cardiff locations.

This course can be run as a company specific option either at your site or our own.

  • Course Content

    Hardware

    Basic introduction to all the personal computer
    elements - monitor, keyboard, ROM, RAM,
    processors and disks.

    Peripherals

    Printers, CD-ROM, scanners, digital cameras, DVD-ROM, web cameras.

    Applications

    General overview of business applications, including
    word processing using Word, spreadsheets using
    Excel, databases with Access, and accounts.

    Typing and Mouse Practice

    A opportunity to improve your typing and clicking skills

    Introduction to Windows

    Getting started using Windows

    Managing Disks and Files

    The My Computer windows displaying each area of
    the PC is explained in detail. Finding and filing your work.

    Customising Windows

    Using the control panel to select printers and to
    control display options such as colours and screen
    savers.

    Shut Down

    Shut down your PC correctly

  • Prerequisites

    This course is suitable for beginners with no prior ICT knowledge.

  • Qualification

    This course covers material from the standard European Computer Driving Licence (Module 2) and contributes to an ITQ level 1 qualification.

  • Level 1 Microsoft Courses
    Build on the knowledge gained on this course by attending a more in depth introduction to a particular subject. Pick from Word, Excel, Access or PowerPoint.
