Course Overview

Learn how to create professional-looking publications quickly and easily. With Publisher, you can create, design, and publish professional marketing and communication materials for print, and for mail or e-mail merges.

This course is designed to familiarise the inexperienced user with the basic concepts of
Desktop Publishing using the package Microsoft Publisher. Topics covered include text editing, simple graphics, importing of text and graphics, document layout and formatting and printing. Learn to use the publications Wizards and mail merge facility.

This is a one-day course running from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Training is hands-on and tutor-led.
We provide a comprehensive training manual, lunch and certification.
Courses run at both Swansea and Cardiff locations.

This course can be run as a company specific option either at your site or our own.

  • Course Content

    Getting Started

    The Publisher screen, ribbons / the menu system,
    status bar, task panes and toolbars. Getting help. Opening, closing and saving your work.

    Using Frames

    Creating a frame, adjusting a frame and moving a
    frame.

    Entering and Formatting Text

    Entering and editing text directly into frames. Using
    the spell check and correcting mistakes. Text
    enhancement features including fonts, bold,
    underline, etc. Importing existing text into frames.

    Working with Graphics

    Importing and editing graphics from ClipArt. Using
    the drawing tools including colour and fills. Working
    with WordArt / Smart Art.

    Layout Tools

    Working with rulers and guides.

    Working with Tables

    Creating and editing tables.

    Printing

    Determining optimum print settings. Using
    commercial printing services, benefiting from the
    Pack and Go feature.

    Using Wizards

    Working with Wizards - use pre-defined document layouts for a professional approach.

    Mail merge

    Mail or email your publication to a data list.

  • Prerequisites

    To gain the maximum benefit from this course, an attendee should have a basic knowledge of Windows and be able to use the mouse.

  • Qualification

    Delegates receive a Computeraid certificate of achievement.

  • Publisher Advanced
    Learn how to use templates and styles. Work with lists, special effects, spacing and use colour effectively.
